manners!

Cell phones, our best friend, I always observe this public display of affection towards their cell phones, as if when someone called them of they are the one calling, they forget all the people around them. one time when i went to a restaurant to eat, the cell phone of the person on the next table rang. Then suddenly, she starts talking. I don’t know if I should say that she is talking, maybe “shouting” would be the perfect word for it. Her voice bounces in all the corner of the restaurant. zzZZz .. She really proves to us that she was talking to someone that was far so she needed to shout just to hear her voice. Kekekek.. I understand that sometimes we need to raise our voice when calling someone in our cell phones, like when we are riding on a vehicle because we can’t hear what were talking because of the noise of the engine. But, we don’t need to compete to the engine’s noise, we can always call some other time, on the right place, on the right time, on the right manner that we can’t disturb somebody near us.. kekekekke.

this proves that as our technology progresses, our manners regresses.. kekeke

are we ready?

our technology today is indeed very amazing. almost anything you want to do, you can do it as easy as clicking a button. we can do shopping, pay our bills, study, etc, thanks to the internet, we can do all of this w/out ever leaving our house.

we have this subject named Future Technology in our school w/c discuss about the past, present and the possible technology in the near future. while having this class, i learned many things about our real status of our technology today. yes, our technology has improved so much, so much that even us human can’t handle the consequences when it goes out of control. we are aware that our technology where improved for military use. they want to create a machine that can calculate the trajectories  of thier missiles so they created it and gives birth of our computers today. military wants to communicate w/out having the problem of data loss even one of their computers are destroyed so they connected their computers and giving birth to the internet. even after the WW1 and 2, technology are still booming because of popularity war. during the cold war between US and USSR, space exploration were the hot topic. many technolgies where developed to make that happen and it did.. in the future, maybe the moon will become a tourist destination.

during one of our discussion in our subject i mentioned above, the one topic that caught our attention when the topic about AI (Artificila Intellegence) was brought out. i observed that only this topic made most of our classmates share their ideas about the topic and our discussion gone wild ^^. one of the question my classmate asks if it is possible that AI can obtain the near perfect human thinking?.  when i heared that, it also made me think, “yeah, is it possible?” .. many movies today uses AI as one of their technology. example of those are iRobot, where a certain robot can generate feeling, like anger, trust and can dream.. wall-e, where a robot can feel love to another robot. but is this possible? is it really possible that machines can do this? is their really a time where machines can feel love, hate, jealousy, lust, loneliness, generate dream, hide a secret, can determine a good joke and laugh on it, pray when they feel down, sympathize when where sad?. is this really possible? if its possible to bring it to a near perfect thinking machines, can this be a good alternative for cloning? this are some of the questions clouding my mind. that only the future holds the answers..

technology is very surprising, we cant point exactly what’s the latest because it improves very fast.. but are we really ready for this fast changing technology?  human rules, we are unique because we can think and decide on our own. but because of technology, our uniqueness can be erased. so now i ask you, “are we ready for this??”,,.,..

As a CS/IT student of USEP, what research topics should usually be address?

As a computer science student, having a research related in our expertise is a wise choice. But as a researcher, we must also focus our research for the improvement of our status, most especially here in our country. Yes, we are always experiencing a crisis in our country (agriculture, industrial etc).

That is why for me, a research that is related in our expertise but can help the people (also for those not inline with computer/technology) would be a wiser choice

Assignment 2

We all know that robots nowadyas are not stranger to man kind. News, movies, games, we can

almost see them anywhere, doing something that sometimes, “their makers can’t do”.
This article states that today’s real-life robots are quite adept as human proxies in some ways
especially in space exploration. We can see in movies how risky and dangerous space exploration

is for humans, to the extent that some critics never believed that humans can’t realy go out
our planet. But because of the extreme burst of technology accompanied by the intellegence ang
curiosity of humans, space exploration became safe because of mechanical replacements.
Does it means that robots have the upper hand in space exploration?

According to Ronald Arkin, director of the mobile robot Laboratory at Georgia Institute of
Technology, “Robots are good explorers because you don’t have to deal with life support systems
that humans would need. They’re easier to take care of and much more adaptable for hostile
environments than people.”, which is in fact true. Not only in space explorations robots are
usefull, in these present days, robots are widely use by humans. Large industries today used
robots to build cars, computer chips and other industry products that don’t require too much
independent thinking. This “gift of technology” also making its name in our normal lifestyle.
Some of them are “Roomba vacuum cleaner” by iRobot, the robot dog Aibo by Sony, and Asimo by
honda who believed that can be put as a helper robot for the disabled.
But all this success in technology comes great risk also. Creating a robot that is capacle on
thinking by himself might come a time get out of human control.

“But it will be advancements in artificial intelligence that is truly going to make us jump to
the next generation of robots,” Eddie Tunstel.

Unless mankind redesigns itself by changing our DNA through altering our genetic makeup,
computer-generated robots will take over our world.

Research Assignment 1

1. Blueprint for a Computer Immune System

by Jeffrey O. Kephart, Gregory B. Sorkin, Morton Swimmer, and Steve R. White
IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center
P.O. Box 704, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598

Its a fact, that no matter what we do, our computer will never become a virus-free computer especially
when it has an internet connection. Because even if we have an updated anti-virus, the viruses
aslo has its updates. Even if some anti-virus companies offers automatic updates on their products,
updating our anti-virus requires a lot of time and sometimes money.

This study discussed the possible way on dealing with this threat by developing
an immune system for computers that senses the presence of a previously unknown pathogen,
and within minutes automatically derives and deploys a prescription for detecting and removing
it.

By reading the study, I can say that having this idea is a big help not only for the computer
users, but also for the anti-virus companies because it saves them time in making their updates
when ever they detected a new strain of virus. But there’s a question i wanted to ask.
If this immune system would exist, what would be now the purpose of some anti-virus companies?
If our anti-virus now has its mind of his own to decide how it can destroy the virus, will there
also come a time that the viruses will also have that kind of capability?

2. A Computer-Mediated Scientific Writing Program

Roy Bowers
Center for Biological Research
La Paz, Mexico

Computer-Mediated Scientific Writing Program is a program composed of people who accepts manuscripts and works, and corrects errors. Since not all people masters English which the central language of people all over the world, this people took advantage of that weakness and made use of their learning and knowledge. As expected, it boomed because of its usefulness especially to the scientists of CIB, since they are from a country not using English as their language. CIB found a simple way to correct glitches of their works and make it comprehensible and more concise sentences.

Of course, this is a very beneficial program because it is helpful not only to the CIB group but also to other researchers, scientists, teachers, students and to all the people in the world. It makes the paper work easy to do, globally competitive because it has no spelling or grammatical errors, and it is not shameful to post in the internet or publish because your paper work will surely have the most concise and errorless sentences.
This has also been a very good idea, imagine you are earning money while just sitting and also learning and having fun on the job you are doing. This is not a bad idea after all because they are just going to invest their time and knowledge. Both are benefited, the correctors and the clients who wants their work will be corrected. This is how Information Technology works, very helpful and beneficial.

3. A Neural Network Model for Classifying Duck Eggs Using Computer Vision

A.L. Zarsuela and J.P. PABICO. 7th ISSAAS (International Society for Southeast
Asian Agricultural Sciences) Philippine National Convention and Annual Meeting, SEARCA, College, Laguna, 25-26 October 2007.
Best Scientific Paper Award in the Livestock and Feeds Theme

Computers are not only use in Information and Communications Technology, it is also used in the agriculture/poultry businesses.

Balut preparation is not an easy thing to do, there are so many processes and things to undergo. Not all the duck eggs are expected to be accepted, some might encounter breakage or rejected because errors in the preparation are unavoidable. There are so many factors why glitches are happening, one factor is the person preparing it himself. Since the preparation is not that fun, he/she might feel bored or tired.
Experts used red, green and blue (RGB) spectral pattern of digital images that will determine if the eggs are rejects or accepted. This plays a very important role because it lessens waste of time and producers and sellers will avoid encountering loss if they have balut business..
